Maybe we're both!
So if you want to see something popular and cultural, check us out at a pop culture convention near you. MariLUG members and displays can be found at the Atlantic Entertainment Expo, East Coast Comic Expo, and more!
We love building with LEGO® as much as any Trekkie loves re-watching The Original Series for the six hundredth time, so we fit right in among the cosplayers, gamers, superfans, and artists found in the hallowed halls of these vibrant events.
We don't discriminate based on size – Aubcon may be a small local fundraiser, but it's still packed full of fandom and fun.
A modest yet mighty crew represented MariLUG for 2026, filling the tables at Auburn Drive High School's library with cool builds and creating opportunities for play with our travelling arctic train table.
Patrick and Tracey hit the road to the island, bringing a train layout and an action-packed Marvel display to delight the masses!
They gave us our own room, and traffic was steady with two doors to keep things flowing nicely.
The inaugural year of the Atlantic Entertainment Expo Saint John chapter went well, and even as we were packing up, we were already looking forward to next year.
Maurits and Patrick collaborated for an awesome train layout, Maurits did some live tree building during the public hours, and Paul arrived on day two with a choice selection of cool vintage builds!
The silver lining of a small layout is density! Patrick and Paul were able to pack their displays with detail at this show.
Meanwhile, Nico brought a veritable museum of Star Wars sets staged in MOC habitats looking like scenes straight out of the iconic films.
We helped Auburn Drive High School with their fundraiser mini-con for the second year. A variety of builds were on display, including a collection from the legendary imagination of 'Moptoptrev'!
Patrick visited Maurits on his home turf for this two-builder show. We had a combined train layout, plus a collection of remote-control trucks from Maurits. Convention attendees had lots of fun driving them up and down the hall!
Geeky setpieces for a geeky event – Baha brought a great collection of comic, film, and otherwise pop culture fare.
As a treat for the LEGO® aficionados, we also had a classic monorail set to light up that spark of nostalgia.
This was the show to attend if you wanted a tour of Star Wars through the ages – in brick form! Nico's display took retail sets to the next level by creating a film-accurate environment for each one.
We also had Aaron's enormous true-minifig-scale sailing ship, and a variety of Paul's classic LEGO® sets and MOCs.
Our first year at Aubcon. This is a small event, but it raises funds for Auburn Drive High School and that makes it well worth attending to support our community!
We displayed a mix of sets and MOCs, featuring pieces from Baha's impressive collection and a whole host of 'Moptoptrev' originals.
This was the first A.E.X. show to be held outside Charlottetown, so we had to put our best foot forward!
Patrick went for a simpler layout than usual by displaying a modular city block without adding trains. Meanwhile, Zev worked on a live build of a UCS Star Destroyer. We had lots of repeat visitors to our area – event attendees kept coming back to check in on the build progress!
A spread of exciting retail sets from Baha's collection showed visitors at this event what's possible in the LEGO® hobby right out of the box!
This was the event that changed the 'Island Entertainment Expo' branding to 'Atlantic Entertainment Expo,' setting the stage for even more shows to join the event's calendar – and with them, more opportunities for future MariLUG displays.
What's the word for a group of Steinman cubes? A geometry? A multiquadrilateral?
Whatever it is, there was one parading across the tabletops at DCAF, along with a live set build by Shawn to show visitors 'how the sausage is made,' so to speak.
Our maiden call to the East Coast Comic Expo! Patrick put together a fun 'Pop Culture Street' with a little help from Angelica's Simpsons house.
Paul adapted to the event theme as well, bringing a wide assortment of vintage themes in place of a Pollocksland city layout.
Before there was the Atlantic Entertainment Expo, there was the Island Entertainment Expo. They changed their name so they could travel, but on this occasion we travelled to them instead! Shawn had a little bit of space in his car on the way over, if you know what we mean...
Hal-Con bills itself as Atlantic Canada's premier science fiction and gaming convention.
In 2022, Shawn dabbled in briefly making it the premier building convention as well, taking over a table for some live building and sharing his joy for all things brick.
We had a modest presence at the DCAF in 2022, sharing our love for the LEGO® hobby without fielding a large display (but there's something to be said for subtlety).
