It began with an experiment in the summer of 2023. Was Halifax ready for a large-scale LEGO® exhibition? Could MariLUG and friends field enough displays to put a Maritime event on the map?
We'd say the answer was 'yes'! The first Bricksplosion was an undeniable success, attracting 2,300 visitors to the show across its 8 hours of public display time. There were 100 tables of creations from 30 builders, as well as eight vendors who went home with empty shelves and full registers. Hundreds of dollars were raised for charity, and most importantly, everyone left feeling inspired!
Clearly, one year was not enough.
The experiment continued.
In 2024, Bricksplosion grew with even more displays and activities, stretching the limits of the venue – and revealing that the summer heat was not the most comfortable weather for an event.
Enter 2025, with a new venue and a new date. Now Atlantic Canada's #1 LEGO fan event comes brick-or-treating in the Halloween season. The air is cool, and so are the builds brought by MariLUG members, independent builders, and visitors from other groups – including some LEGO Masters alumni.
From 2026, Bricksplosion continues to carve out its niche under the watchful eye of its organizer: MariLUG member Shawn McLeod. As a LUG, we collaborate closely with Shawn's brand Holdfast Bricks to make Bricksplosion a true destination event with the potential to grow into a full-fledged convention.
This is MariLUG's present flagship event, and not one to miss! For updates on this year's Bricksplosion be sure to watch the calendar and check out the official event website.
A year of upgraded venues, more exciting things to see, and Patrick very nearly making it to the event before it was over.
The Moxy Mice will scurry forever in our hearts!
Like the first year, but bigger and better. Same great atmosphere. Same North End Halifax charm. Same conspicuously slick floor lying in wait to take down AFOLs carrying their most precious MOCs.
The inaugural year! A truly momentous occasion for Holdfast Bricks and MariLUG alike.
When we reminisce on our younger years, we'll remember this Bricksplosion as the one that started it all.
