Saint John Model Train Show - Nov. 12, 2022

Back in Action

When the Saint John Society of Model Railroaders returned for their first annual show following the pandemic hiatus, MariLUG was thrilled to return alongside them. This was our first train-focused event since before COVID-19, and did we ever have fun! Not only did we get to show off our railroading skills to over 500 attendees, but we were also able to deliver passengers and freight by train from point A to B (and then back to point A again, many, many times). In addition to our town & carnival display, we also featured Paul's beautiful collection of vintage sets and classic 12V trains for the public to see.

Of course, none of this would have been possible without the MariLUG members who made it happen. Big thanks to Patrick for serving as Event Coordinator, as well as to Paul, Trevor, and Sam for contributing their builds and their time.

Day 1: Setup and Prep

After what was a long drive for many of our members, the show setup began on the evening of Nov. 11th at the Island View Lions Club in Quispamsis, New Brunswick. This was the culmination of months of planning and members spent much of the evening preparing the bulk of the display for the public showing in the morning.

Day 2: Public showing

Nov. 12th started early as we put the finishing touches on our display, adding trains, cars, a rail yard and more before the public arrived. By 9:00 a.m., all of the hard work finally paid off as the doors opened to the public. There is nothing quite like seeing a child's face light up as a LEGO train pulls into the station (or a parent's face for that matter!). Needless to say, our members had a blast and we can't wait for our next event!
